Brooks McFeely

Founder & President

Brooks McFeely is MidnightTrader’s founder and president, and is recognized throughout the industry as one of the foremost authorities on extended-hours trading. Brooks founded MidnightTrader in mid-1999, following several years heading up his own financial planning and brokerage firm.

A 1995 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Brooks started his investment career aboard the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower. While serving on the Eisenhower, Brooks earned his certified financial planner (CFP) degree and obtained several NASD securities brokerage licenses. He subsequently started a financial-planning-service-at-sea to help his 5,500 shipmates invest their money wisely.

Toward the end of his Naval career, the SEC lifted several regulatory constraints letting individual investors trade in the extended-hours market for the first time, and Brooks took special interest in learning all he could about extended-hours trading. He noticed that although corporations announce the most significant market-moving news after close of the regular trading day, none of the news services provided coverage of after-hours and pre-market trading. Brooks recognized the opportunity to fill the information gap for the millions of investors beginning to engage in extended-hours trading and started MidnightTrader.

In 2000 Brooks founded black-box trading firm Pearl Investments and in 2003 launched Brochet Capital Partners, LP, a pre-market and after-hours event-driven hedge fund to take advantage of extended-hours trading opportunities identified by MidnightTrader. Today Brooks serves as a managing partner of Brochet Capital Partners.

Brooks’s expert commentary has appeared in leading business media, including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Newsweek, Investor’s Business Daily, Business Week, Barron's, Dow Jones NewsWire, Reuters, MarketWatch, CNBC and BNN television. Brooks also contributed significantly to The After-Hours Trader, the premiere book about after-hours trading (McGraw-Hill, 2000).
